South Texas College can help you become a patient care technician or certified nurse aide in only two semesters! This unique PCT/CNA program requires successful completion of twenty one college credits and it awards a double certificate upon graduation. Key courses which focus on the basic nursing care of adults, children, and the elderly are part of this program, in addition to phlebotomy and EKG training and techniques. The need for qualified nursing personnel in Texas is growing each year, and employment opportunities abound for well-prepared patient care technicians as well as CNAs. Students who complete the first semester of this patient care technician/nurse aide program are qualified to challenge the Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation exam and become certified in Texas. Those who wish to become a patient care technician have to complete the additional second semester in order to be eligible for the National Center for Competency Testing examination.
