The Nursing Division at Amarillo College offers a Vocational Nursing Program which takes one year to finish and awards a Certificate of Completion. Graduating students are ready to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) and become Vocational Nurses. Upon passing the NCLEX exam, graduates can start working as beginning practitioners in many different health care settings such as physician offices, hospitals, clinics, public schools, and nursing homes. Amarillo College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. If you would like to enroll in this program you need to provide proof of GED and expect that clinical practice, classes, and labs will take you around eight hours each day.

Did you know that Temple College started a Vocational Nursing Program in 1973? The Vocational Nursing Program is a one-year certificate program which consists of three consecutive semesters and is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. Following completion of the program, the graduate is awarded a certificate of completion and is eligible to apply to take the state licensing examination NCLEX-PN. The Temple College Vocational Nursing Program has maintained an outstanding reputation with an excellent pass rate on this examination and has been awarded an exemplary rating by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The program begins each summer and finishes in May and in addition to the Temple Vocational Nursing program, there is a program at the Taylor Center.
Temple College also offers an Associate Degree Nursing program which allows graduates to apply to take the state licensing exam for registered nurses (RN). This program requires at least two years of study. A Bridging Program allows LVN to advance their education and enter the ADN program in the second year. Upon completion the graduate is awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree and may apply to take the Registered Nurse licensing exam NCLEX-RN. Admission to each of these programs is highly competitive.
