The School of Nursing at Tarleton State University has an excellent reputation and offers a multiple-entry baccalaureate program accredited by the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas since 1995 as well as by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) until 2014. Nursing students are offered many classroom and clinical learning opportunities in hospitals over a wide geographic area. The baccalaureate degree program offers many career choices: BSN, Licensed Vocation Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LVN to BSN), and Registered Nurse to BSN (RN to BSN). The School of Nursing also offers you the opportunity to meet with a nursing advisor early in your college career since you may be considering several nursing programs which have different entry requirements and prerequisite courses. Tarleton State University also offers eleven nursing scholarships worth around $55,000 annually. Did you know that Wharton County Junior College offers two ways to get an Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) in Nursing? The A.A.S. track is a twenty-two month program while the LVN to ADN Transition program is an accelerated eleven month track for students who are already Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN). Both tracks prepare program graduates to work as Registered Nurses after passing the NCLEX-RN examination. Wharton County Junior College has dedicated faculty, good clinical locations, and a challenging curriculum. Courses are focused on the art and science of nursing, which is taught in classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical practice settings. Courses cover provision of nursing care across the life span and addresses individuals and their health care needs in the context of the family and groups. Students have the opportunity to engage in clinical learning in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and community-based agencies in the Wharton County, Houston, and surrounding areas. The program is accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing and graduates are well prepared for entry into professional practice.
